Reminder for Staff: Use Your Floating Holidays by December 31, 2025

Cornell introduced floating holidays for eligible employees effective January 1, 2025. 

Detailed information can be found in the Holiday Time Program under University Policy 6.9, Time Off and Leaves.

Important: Floating holiday balances for the 2025 calendar year must be used by December 31, 2025. Unused days do not carry over to the next year.

To avoid forfeiting available time: 

  • Submit your time off request in accordance with unit practice.
  • Provide as much advance notice as possible to allow supervisors to plan for adequate staffing coverage. 

Important reminders: 

  • Employees are not required to provide a reason for using floating holiday time, and supervisors may not inquire about how the time will be used.
  • All floating holiday time must be recorded in Workday. 

How to Check your Floating Holiday Time Accrual Balances

To view your floating holiday time accrual balances: 

  1. Log into Workday
  2. Click on the Menu tab (top-left corner)
  3. Click on the Absence app
  4. View your balance under “Available Balance as of Today”
