Conflict Management Plan Methods Checklist
Below is a non-exhaustive list of various conflict management methods that may be utilized when developing a Conflict Management Plan:
- Re-assignment of the conflicting function and other subsequent related activities to a disinterested unit employee.
- Restricting, limiting, or removing the individual’s involvement (e.g., recusal) and/or access to particular information related to the transaction, negotiations, or the decision-making process.
- Relinquishing (divesting) a private interest (such as selling a financial interest, returning a gifted item to the donor, etc.).
- Resigning from an external organization position (temporarily or permanently).
- Transferring of supervising responsibilities to a disinterested unit employee to eliminate the conflict of interest.
- Independent monitoring and oversight and/or approval of the affected business decision.
- Implementing other effective preventative mechanisms which result in the severance of relationships that create actual or potential conflicts.
- Requirements that disallow the use of university resources or use of the university’s name, logo, or other marks without express approval.
- Requirements for approval of contracts with and invoices from the external organization (reporting and auditing).
- Conflict of interest training or refresher training requirements.
- Any other conditions necessary to reduce or eliminate the risk that external interest could unduly influence the employee’s professional responsibilities to the university.
