Message to People Leaders August 30, 2024

With a tentative agreement in place between the UAW and the university, we want to provide all supervisors and managers with additional information, guidance, and support. It’s important to acknowledge that if the tentative agreement is ratified, there will likely be a transition period as employees return, and we begin to work together again.

New Resources and Support Efforts

We are developing several new resources and support efforts to facilitate a smooth transition:

Workforce Reintegration Guidance: As mentioned in the Wednesday update, guidance for workforce reintegration is available. It includes practical advice for preparing yourself and your teams, and strategies to help set a positive tone, reconnect, and reestablish relationships.

Scheduled Sessions: Colleagues from the Employee Experience and Faculty and Staff Assistance Program have scheduled sessions with managers in building care, dining, and other units over the next few days for facilitated discussions on the return-to-work process.

Virtual Office Hours: Live sessions with Organizational Development and Effectiveness and the Office of General Counsel will provide time for managers to discuss and address any challenges as employees return to work. This is an opportunity to share experiences, seek advice, and develop strategies to ensure a smooth transition (see below). The first session is today!

Virtual Coherence Sessions: These 20-minute coherence sessions can help reduce stress, boost resilience, improve emotional regulation, and enhance overall wellbeing (see below).

We appreciate your dedication and patience as we navigate this process together.
