Employment Verification

How to obtain verification of your employment at Cornell University.

What To Know:

• You may need to provide proof of employment if you are applying for a loan to buy a car or house, etc.
• The Division of Human Resources partners with The Work Number to provide 24/7 access and respond to requests.  
• A properly credentialed verifier can securely obtain employment verification that will verify dates of employment and current or most recent job title and department information as found in the university human resource/payroll system.  

What To Do:

1. Go to The Work Number website

   https://employees.theworknumber.com/ Scroll down to "How To Manage Your Data," and click the "Sign Up" link.

   Select "Not A Robot," then enter Cornell's employer code: 157332

   Click on "Cornell University" when it displays, then click "Select Employer."

2. Register or log in

   First-time users: click the "Register Now" option. Complete the registration form. After authenticating, you will create a personal User ID and Password.

   Returning users: enter the personal user ID and password you created previously, or select "Forgot User ID" or "Forgot Password" to re-authenticate.

3. Generate a Salary Key

   If you need to present proof of salary, select the "Grant Access to Salary Info" option. Share this key to enable credentialed verifiers to access your employment and/or salary information. The key is required even if the information being verified is only employment (not salary). 

   Click the "Generate A Salary Key" button; then click on the arrow next to "Active" in the block with the salary key number.

   Choose "Email" to have the salary key sent directly to a verifier; or choose "PDF" to save or print a copy of instructions you can send or provide to a verifier.
