Bridge to Employment

Purpose

The Bridge to Employment initiative supports the recruitment, hiring, retention and advancement of untapped talent pools for employment at Cornell University.

Eligibility

  • People who have experienced challenges finding employment at Cornell
  • Untapped talent pools across Tompkins and surrounding counties

Services Provided

Recruitment

  • Job search assistance for positions at Cornell
  • Connect job seekers with local workforce services for assistance with resume, cover letter, and interview preparation
  • Information about job openings at Cornell
  • Referral for informational interviewing at Cornell
  • Recommendations for networking in Cornell community

Hiring

  • Ensure people understand the application process
  • Ensure people have access to computer/technology to apply

Retention

  • Demonstrate value for employees at all levels
  • Train managers and staff in inclusive workplace culture
  • Address issues that surface through workplace surveys 

Advancement

  • Invest in professional development of employees
  • Provide opportunities for employees to take classes, workshops, trainings, gain certifications, move within and outside current departments/colleges/units/divisions
  • Ensure Performance Evaluations are utilized to support growth and movement within Cornell
  • Develop a mentorship program, so individuals have additional support in achieving their career goals
