Eligibility
All VP CHRO division* staff are eligible to submit a nomination. You can nominate yourself, an individual, or a people leader by filling out the form at the link below. You can also submit more than one nomination.
Teams can only be nominated for the Problem Solver Team Award.

About the RAVE Awards
As a response to division survey feedback, we formed an employee recognition team, now called the RAVE team. RAVE stands for Recognizing, Appreciating, and Valuing Employees (in the VPCHRO division).
The RAVE team invites all division staff members to this inaugural virtual celebration to connect, have fun, and recognize individuals who are going above and beyond while exemplifying outstanding leadership qualities, innovating, displaying our new HR Values, and achieving impactful results.
Crushing It Award
In a Nutshell: The Crushing It Award recognizes an employee who achieved outstanding results by solving a problem or addressed challenging situation which benefitted their department, division, HR Community and/or the university. They developed, implemented, or tried a new approach, system, or idea while displaying positive leadership and customer service.

Crushing It Award Overview and Criteria
Taking initiative that leads to outstanding results matter to VPCHRO division and university to keep pace with workforce needs so it is imperative to recognize and reward those who step up in impactful ways. Nominees for this award should be an individual who demonstrates exemplary Leadership for Success Skills, embodies the new HR Values, and embodies excellent customer service. Regardless of how long you have been in the division, or the university nominees bring fresh ideas to their work, can solve business needs, and take a bold approach to accomplishing their work. They can be a colleague, a manager, an employee, someone you have worked with on a project – or even yourself. Achieving individually or collectively within the HR Community and Cornell enables to meet its goals and objective.

What we’re looking for: Here is your chance to tell us about an employee that has demonstrated, implemented, or tried a new approach, system, or idea in the last year. Consider the criteria above incorporate one or more Leadership Skills for Success.
- To inform your response. We would also suggest including one or more HR Values to improve your submission.
Examples of Excellence:
- The nominee may work in a department that championed a forward-thinking approach, successfully overhauling a work process or policy to adapt to evolving conditions while achieving meaningful results.
- Perhaps they provide outstanding front-line customer service, responding efficiently and effectively to implement significant changes that meet compliance requirements or address shifting workforce needs.
- Alternatively, they may work behind the scenes, collaborating with others, leveraging data-driven insights, and proactively addressing challenges to deliver impactful solutions in a constantly changing environment.

Innovative Rockstar Award
In a Nutshell: Recognizes an employee who is innovative and thrives on being a pioneer. They introduce new or inventive methods to resolve longstanding employee, human resources, or talent needs. They advance their department, division, HR Community and/or the university. They developed, implemented, or tried a new approach, system, or idea while displaying positive leadership skills, taking positive risks, and exhibiting our new HR values.

Innovative Rockstar Overview and Criteria
Providing timely and creative solutions to evolving operational needs of the Cornell workforce helps HR Community to compete for talent, retain talent, and standout in higher education. Nominees for this award are focused on researching, developing, and implementing innovative solutions to challenges or initiating exciting new projects to overcome employee obstacles.
Nominees take calculated risks and dare to cross conventional boundaries and push for efficiencies in the VPCHRO division and university. Growing the HR function abilities is a key driver of progress so it is vital to recognize and celebrate those who step up in impactful ways and admired for their “rockstar” qualities. Nominees for this award should be an individual that demonstrates exemplary Leadership for Success Skills, and embodies the new HR Values.
Regardless of how long you have been in the division, the nominee brings exciting and possibly groundbreaking ideas to their work to solve business needs, and takes a bold approach to accomplishing their work. A nominee can be a colleague in the VPCHRO division, a VPCHRO manager, division employee, someone you have worked with on a project – or even yourself. Achieving individually or collectively within the HR Community takes HR to the next level.

Problem Solver Team Award (NEW!)
In a Nutshell: Problem Solver Team Award recognizes a team of three or more employees who have demonstrated exceptional innovation, critical thinking, and collaboration to address complex challenges within the past 12 months. Eligible work may include projects, process improvements, service enhancements, or organizational problem-solving efforts. This award honors teams that approach challenges with creativity, respect, and initiative while delivering measurable improvements that positively impact the Cornell community. Nominations should highlight how the team modeled Cornell’s core values of Compassion, Integrity, Curiosity, Inclusivity, and Stewardship. Work must be completed or have measurable milestones and results that can be demonstrated.

Problem Solver Team Award Overview and Criteria
To be considered, nominations must include a narrative of no more than 1,200 words describing the team’s work in five key areas:
- Problem Statement: Explain the challenge or opportunity, who was impacted, and why it was important to Cornell’s mission or operations.
- Approach: Detail the methods used, how the team demonstrated curiosity, initiative, and innovation, and any creative solutions or adaptability shown.
- Collaboration: Describe team roles and contributions, and how respect, inclusivity, and compassion were fostered throughout the process.
- Outcomes: Highlight measurable results, metrics that demonstrate impact, and how the solution reflects stewardship and sustainability.
- Lessons Learned: Share what worked well, what didn’t, and how the team demonstrated integrity through transparency and ethical decision-making.
In addition to the narrative, nominations should include two to four pieces of supporting evidence, such as before-and-after data comparisons, dashboards, testimonials or stakeholder feedback, or accessibility and sustainability checks. The information provided should clearly illustrate the team’s impact and alignment with Cornell’s values.
Nominations will be evaluated based on alignment with the award purpose, impact, teamwork and collaboration, and supporting evidence. Successful submissions will reflect the keywords collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving, and continuous improvement, financial stewardship, and demonstrate how the team’s work embodies Cornell’s commitment to professional excellence, continuous improvement, and a positive workplace culture.

Quiet Giant Award (NEW!)
In a Nutshell: This award salutes those individuals that tend to be behind the scenes that you can rely on in a time of real need. They are trustworthy and can be counted on to do a job well, will step up and respond quickly, and can be a calming presence. You would be “dead in the water” without their response to your need.

Quiet Giant Award Overview and Criteria
The award highlights those that provide excellent service and quality work. Throughout their year they consistently go above and beyond to ensure that their customer feel valued, heard, and supported. They deliver on their customer’s needs. Their ability to resolve challenges in a timely manner is what sets them apart. In a Nutshell: The Victors of Volunteering Award honors outstanding individuals who consistently and enthusiastically contribute their time and effort to support division and university events, workgroups, and urgent initiatives. These individuals are driven by a passion for making a meaningful impact and creating positive experiences within the community.
Their dedication to enhancing events and fostering collaboration among staff, faculty, and students sets them apart. Through their selfless contributions, they help cultivate a vibrant and supportive environment that inspires and uplifts everyone around them.

Victors of Volunteering Overview and Criteria
This award recognizes an individual who had made exceptional contributions to the school community through volunteerism. This prestigious honor celebrates the selfless dedication, leadership and positive impact of those who exemplify the spirit of service and inspire others to engage in meaningful acts of kindness.
The award highlights the critical role volunteers play in addressing societal and/or school needs and fostering positive change. Through their time, skills and passion, honorees make a measurable difference in their communities, embodying the values of empathy, generosity and commitment. Nominees for this award should demonstrate exemplary Leadership for Success Skills and embody the new HR Values.
Nominees for the Victors of Volunteering Award are evaluated based on impact, leadership, commitment, diversity of services and inspirational value.

Recognizes an individual or team that has demonstrated exceptional efforts in promoting physical, mental and emotional wellness within their workplace. This award recognizes those who go above and beyond to create inclusive, supportive and inspiring environments that prioritize wellbeing.

The Wowing at Wellbeing Award celebrates initiatives that improve quality of life, reduce barriers to wellness and encourage healthier lifestyles. Nominees will be evaluated on impact of wellbeing such as evidence of meaningful and measurable improvement in the mental, physical or emotional health of individuals.
